The Thoraxklinik is the largest center for the treatment of thoracic diseases in Germany. It is recognized as a maximum-care hospital. It is an academic teaching hospital of University of Heidelberg. Its departments of Thoracic Surgery and Medical Oncology are integrated into the Heidelberg University Clinics. Around 5,000 people are admitted annually as inpatients and similar numbers of patients are additionally treated as outpatients. With its wide spectrum of quality health care, the clinic holds a leading position not only in Germany but also in Europe. The clinic is one of the partners of National Cancer Center Heidelberg (National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT). Years of scientific research cooperation with well-known German cancer research center “Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ)” guarantees the clinic´s high qualitative patient treatments and state-of-art medical cares at international level. Other fields of interest are clinical research and new treatment strategy development, such as multi-modal treatment concepts – surgery in combination with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
